Healthy Coordination Practices

To work effectively with HR, share your vision, prioritize tasks, exchange knowledge, identify key coordination points, and maintain open, regular communication.

Productive Ways to Work with HR

Communicate openly and regularly - keep each other informed about team needs, concerns, and performance, as well as any HR policies and programs that can support a healthy work culture.

Share your vision and align on strategies - even if you’re at the conceptual stage, sharing your vision for the future will help your HR partners understand where you’re headed so that they can assist in mapping out the HR strategies needed to realize your short- and long-term goals.

Exchange cross-functional expertise - mission area teams can familiarize themselves with HR policies and procedures; HR teams can familiarize themselves with the work your team delivers, and the ideal employee profiles behind the delivery.

Identify key coordination points and working style preferences – plot out the key moments in which you’ll coordinate as a cross-functional team and frame out the ways in which you’ll work together, including individual preferences for how to work effectively.

Prioritize thoughtfully - work together to strategically manage finite resources and time, such as the ability to classify new roles and post new job announcements, against what’s most important and/or urgent.

Lead with trust - build a foundation of trust by empowering team members, being transparent in decision-making, and consistently showing integrity and respect in all interactions
